My Mother......

I lost my wonderful, really awesome, Mom on February 7, 2012.
She was 77 years old.

She had a stroke and passed away in her sleep.
My sister and I found her in bed.

We had a rule that she had to call me every morning so
I could make sure she was up and around.

She didn't call that day.

My sister and I called and called.

We met at her house and went in together.

Actually, it was kind of nice to sit on her bed with her
and say our good byes before we called 911.

We had been taking care of her for a long time.
Sometimes it was really hard...hearing the same story over and over.
And getting use to all her new little "ways" she liked things done.

A while ago a huge calm came over me and I decided
I wasn't going to correct her any more.
I wasn't going to say,
I know, you told me already.
I wasn't going to worry so much about cleaning her house,
fixing a meal, she wasn't going to eat.

I was going to spend more time just talking to her.
Watching TV with her, just sitting with her.

I'm glad I did.

When I wasn't at her house, I spoke with her twice a day.
We had good talks together,
even if I had already heard the story.......

She always told me she loved me
and I always told her.

I really miss her.

  1. Beautifully written. A very nice rendition of your love for your mom, Jane. Brought tears to my eyes. Your words remind me very much of my own relationship with my mom and encourages me to enjoy my time with her even more. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

  2. I know that this time of year brings it all back to you. It does for me too. I lost my day last year on March 13. The cool wind and the promise of Springs brings with it all those feelings. My mom dieid 6 months prior to Daddy and I had been taking care of both of them for the past 5 years. Sometimes I can literally smell their presence. Your mom-she was beautiful! Treasure your memories.

  8. So sorry for your loss. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

  9. I am so very sorry.....I went down this same road 13yrs ago now and I still miss my mom every day, my best-est friend ever! I think of her several times a day and still talk to her.....they say time heals....it does ease the pain somewhat, but it never closes the hole now left in your heart. Thoughts of her now bring tears, but give it time and the tears will lessen and you will begin to smile at the memories.
    Sincerely, Niece

It's hard but I'm glad you spent that time with her towards the end. It's something you'll cherish forever. She loved you to pieces and that was easy to see. I wish you peace my life long friend and we'll toast to your sweet Mom in May!
