Kitchen Island

Having such a small house I moved my kitchen table into the living room
and moved the living room into the extra bedroom.

I wanted a kitchen island.
I was going to build one and then one day I found one!

It is really a whole kitchen counter and cupboards.

This is where I blog when I'm at home.

I added this piece so I could have a bar.
Since this was removed from a house the back side just had a piece of
unfinished wood.  I covered it with the fake wainscot or waynescoat,
however you say it, that was left over from my bedroom remodel.

This side must have been against a wall

But this side has the real stuff!
I love real wainscot!
As you can see at the bottom it was dark brown.

In fact it was this color.
It took a ton of paint to cover this thing!

Here's the front.
Is this awesome or what!!??
I sat in my yard forever, it needed a lot of work on the
inside in order to move it into the house.
Unfortunately a few spiders lost their homes.

Look at this - tons of room!
Ya know I do cook!  I am a really good cook, I make meals all the time,
I've made almost everything out of Pioneer Woman's Cookbook,
it just doesn't look like it from this side.

And looky here the best thing. EVER!

A flour bin!
Perfect for my plastic bags!

These guys were covered in paint and took forever to get it all off

These handles I gave up on!
I can't even get them unscrewed.

So here I added a piece of wood to make it higher for the bar stools.

This was the hard part, trying to make the bar wood
close to the same color as the original top.
This took a lot of mixing colors,
but it turned out pretty good!

So there you have it!

  6. Hi Jane,
Thanks for stopping by my blog today and your nice comment! Two Jane's that both love junk!!
Your kitchen island looks awesome! I love that flour bin and all of the old hardware. The pantry in the house I grew up in had three of those flour bins. I always thought they were so cool.
I look forward to seeing more of your farm house renovations.
