Gram's Hankies, Why don't we carry them?

OK so I know in the age of disinfecting wipes,
sanitary alcohol machines in public rest rooms,
sanitary liquid soap....
we don't even have bar soap anymore!

But look,
hankies were so lady like and so pretty

These were my Grandmother's

Look how pretty......

This one I carried on my wedding day.......
my first wedding.......
(that's a whole other Oprah ladies)

And these,
Gram collected tooth pick holders!

She had a couple hundred!
She always had them in the window.

Anyway, back to hankies........

I am the queen of allergies,
I am allergic to air!

I carry packets of tissue in every purse.
I would never use a hankie with my nose it wouldn't be pretty....

but back then,
ladies wore hats, and gloves.....

Heeeey, maybe they were on to something with the gloves.....

I say bring back the hankie!

You with me??

  1. Oh, I love how you framed the hankies. Great idea! I have tons that were my sweet grandma's. I should do this.

They are saying that antibacterial wipes and soaps aren't as great as once thought. I guess they take away the good bacteria, too.

I think so many things should be brought back. I'm a vintage gal through and through :)

You are allergic to the air. You crack me up!

    Have a good one!

  3. Are family treasures the best? I have my Grandmothers hankies too. Never thought of framing them. I have been thinking of doing a display of them in a shadow box with her corsage she wore for her 50th wedding anniversary, but think I will just frame them separately after seeing your post. Thanks for sharing. Lovely sentimenal post today. I am with you, I will stick to tissues!!! ~~Sherry~~

  4. Allergic to air, Hey, I thought I was the only one who was! ;)) Seriously, the hankies are beautiful. Love how you have them displayed, but yeah, tissues are the best aren't they!

  5. I like pretty hankies, I remember my Grandma always had one tucked someplace, usually up a sleeve. I still have a few of hers. Nice idea you have for displaying them.

  7. What a sweet collection! I carried one of my grandmother's hankies at my wedding and my daughter is going to carry one at her wedding in May! Does my heart good to know she love the sentimental old things like I do!

  8. Hankies are so pretty! What a great idea to put them in a frame! My husband had allergies when we lived in Southern California and always had a cotton bandana with him. They were much softer than tissues.

  9. Love your Gram's hankies and little glass holders! They are charming on their own, and then sweet because of the connection. I give my grandgirls hankies, and I use my own now and then. I'm with you about a comeback!

  12. And along with hankies, I'd like to bring back the white gloves, too! So classy in those days.

  13. I have a few old hankies, I'm sure they are in a box somewhere. What a wonderful idea to fram them. I love how you have them displayed!

I saw in your sidebar that there is an Ikea coming to CO? We don't have one nearby at all! Not even in Kansas City, MO-which has a lot of shops. So I guess I'll be making a roadtrip to CO. LOL

  14. It is fabulous that you framed them. I do not carry one but my Joe carries a more masculine cloth hankie all the time and I seem to ask for it all the time!

  15. I agree- we should use the hankies and treat ourselves- I have some and keep them in a draw. Love them ans your toothpick holders of your Grannies...

  16. The framed hankies are beautiful and all the more special since they were your grandmother's. I look at old photos of my grandparents and they were always dressed to the T. Like you said, they wore hats, gloves and the women would never be caught dead in a pair of pants! I don't know if I could handle that.
    Have a great weekend.
