Old Doors / Chicken Coop

Along with my obsession with old door knobs
I have a thing for old doors too.

I use them for tables or just have them sitting in my yard...
more on that when it gets warm!

This is the door to my chicken coop!

Now that I'm looking at it.......
Sure looks ugly in the winter!

When it's "green" outside it looks much better!

Come on in and meet some of the girls!

This is Pearl.....

And this is Sweet Pea.
She likes to be held and rocked.
She'll fall asleep in my arms.

Look closely at her eyes.....
Her eyes aren't like regular chicken eyes.
I think she's a very wise chicken.........

And, now she's done with me trying to get a picture of
her wise eyes.

I had 3 of these hens.
I called them
The Supremes!

Unfortunately an evil fox........

Well........she doesn't like to talk about it.

And this is my buddy Rooster!
He loves to be held and follows me everywhere!

Most Roosters have a big red comb on top of their heads.......
Well, Rooster likes snow,
he likes to be in the snow.....
and his comb got frost bit and fell off.

Now it looks like he has a crew cut!!

My hens lay white, brown, green and blue eggs!
There is nothing like real eggs!

If you have never had farm fresh eggs you need to!

Farm fresh, range free, are the best!
Trust me, you will notice the difference!

Get yourself some chickens!
They are great pets and hilarious!!!
Watching a chicken run is the funniest thing ever!!

  7. I LOVE chickens! I had three a few years ago because they wandered into my yard and they hung around all summer (and winter too) I can't tell you how much time I spent just watching them because they were SO FUNNY! The rooster was mean though. The only one who could deal with him was Kira. I wrote about it a long time ago. You can see it here: http://linda075blog.blogspot.com/2009/03/chickens.html

  8. Chickens were out gateway drug in to farm animals! We have about 40 adults and 15 chicks now with more hatching in the next few days! Yours look like barred rocks? We have quite a few of them and agree that the entertainment value alone is worth having them around!

  11. Such pretty chickens. I can't believe his crown fell off. Weird. I told my husband having chickens is all the rage. He said no way. Too many critters around here that would get to them. Plus no extra funds right now. I do buy cage free eggs and there is definitely a difference.

  12. Jane, So where do you live that you can raise chickens? I've never been around poultry- too cute that you can love on them like that!
I like old door knobs, too. I try to buy them at a good price- so often, they are really expensive. Thanks for stopping by and choosing to follow. It's always fun to meet new friends.

  13. I love your old door on your chicken coop! I love your chickens too! I can't wait to get some. I know what you mean about real eggs - I pay a pretty penny for local farm fresh eggs and they are worth every bit!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me a sweet comment about my painted letters :)

  14. I love old doors too, if it were up to me I would have them propped up in every room but my husband and kids live here too. Oh and my ultimate is to put an old door in the middle of the yard with nothing near it, it would get the neighbors talking and me a laugh. Your chickens bring back memories, we had them when we were kids. My mom used to yell out the window "come here girls" and up the chickens would come to get a treat. They looked just like yours. Have a wonderful weekend.

  15. Chickens are not allowed around here. It would not be good for me to have some anyway, as I should not eat the eggs. Growing up, I remember fresh farms eggs we got from relatives.
    Thanks for stopping by.

  16. I enjoy my chickens too. I have 16 ladies and they pay for themselves with the eggs I sell. Love your chicken coop, one day I am going to do a post about mine and the joys of backyard chickens! Thanks for sharing!

  17. My friends have chickens and they are hilarious! They also lay the best eggs and I am lucky to be able to have some several times a month. They had 3 chicks to start with and called them....
    The Dixie Chicks!! So funny!

  18. Ahh! we are going to be friends. I had chickens, started out with 8 which soon turned into 180. Oh my, the first 50 had names and all became pets...how can you eat a pet? Just couldn't do it...they all died of old age...
